Ralph Barnes, vice president of Morlin Asset Management, told the LA Times: "We're proud that Union Station has been and continues to serve as a valuable and readily accessible free resource for COVID testing for Angelenos. This was an unfortunate mix-up between everyone involved in making these tests possible, including the station, Curative and government officials, which led to the mistaken cancellation of today's tests, which we're happy to report was corrected last night." Curative, which runs the testing site, confirmed the location was up and running on Tuesday. "To clarify any previous confusion, we are confirming the site will be open for normal operation today," Curative said in a statement to CNN. The film shoot went on as planned for a permitted film called 'He's All That,'"said Philip Sokoloski, a spokesman for FilmLA , which processes applications for film permits. The movie is the remake of the 1999 rom-com "She's All That," which featured Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook. The shoot involves some exterior establishing shots and interior dialogue, with a total cast and crew size of around 170. "FilmLA did not, and never would, seek the closure of a City-operated COVID-19 testing center to accommodate filming," Sokoloski said. "Neither we, the City permit authority, nor the production company asked that this be done at Union Station." The organization said it first heard of the testing site closing on Monday night. "FilmLA first learned of the testing site's closure Monday evening, after community members reached out to express their concern," Sokoloski said. "We were disappointed by what we learned, and immediately helped escalate the situation to City attention." More than 500 people had appointments to be tested Tuesday at Union Station, according to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. The area was also the site of a movie shoot scheduled to happen on the same day. People with appointments to get tested at the site were notified by testing site operator Curative on Monday that the location would be closed due to an event, as first reported by Deadline. News of the testing site's closure quickly garnered backlash online, with many commenting that the location is one of the city's most accessible testing sites. Los Angeles County Public Health reported its highest-ever single day Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations on Tuesday, just one day after surpassing 400,000 total cases. The city went under a new stay-at-home order on Monday, as cases surge. "

"Researchers screened blood donations made in December and early January and found evidence of antibodies to the novel coronavirus in at least 84 samples from nine states -- something that would suggest those people had been infected with coronavirus. "These findings suggest that SARS-CoV-2 may have been introduced into the United States prior to January 19, 2020," the researchers at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Red Cross wrote in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases. Many people wonder if they may have had coronavirus early in the pandemic, or even before people knew the virus was circulating. It would be hard to know unless someone took a coronavirus test at the time -- something that obviously did not exist. The symptoms are similar to those of many other flu-like infections: a cough, a fever, body aches, perhaps a sore throat. And without a sample taken at the time of infection or soon after, it will be impossible to know whether an individual was infected back then, said Dr. Ian Lipkin, director of the Center for Infection and Immunity at Columbia University. Antibody tests can indicate a past infection, but not when that infection occurred. "You cannot distinguish between somebody being infected in December or being infected in March or April," Lipkin told CNN. A person's immune response to a viral infection such as Covid-19 changes over time. Several studies have shown that antibody responses ramp up right after infection and then adjust as different types of antibodies take over, and long term immunity kicks in. It's not yet known how long the human body maintains an immune response to coronavirus infection. "There are tests that in the first few weeks of infection indicate very recent infection, but after that you can't really tell," Lipkin said. The only exception would be if someone had taken a blood test earlier that showed they were negative for the virus. But the study shows that blood donations may be an important source of information about when the virus began circulating, the CDC and Red Cross researchers said. "These findings also highlight the value of blood donations as a source for conducting SARS-CoV-2 surveillance," they wrote in Tuesday's report. SARS-CoV-2 is the scientific name for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19. Blood donations stored since last year could be tested for antibodies, although the type of test could be important. Several other coronaviruses cause common colds and tests could mistakenly detect infections with those viruses, the CDC and Red Cross researchers noted. "We clearly want to know how long this virus has been circulating," Lipkin added. "People are trying to figure out when this first appeared outside China." "

"There was no possible way for Ivica Zubac to know how the Clippers will play in the upcoming season after one day of training camp.  The first group practice isn’t expected until Sunday, once several days of individual workouts required by the NBA’s COVID-19 protocols finish, and even that timeline assumes all coronavirus results return negative. Only a few others were in the team’s practice facility Tuesday when Zubac was shooting, with footage taken by the team showing guards Luke Kennard, Terance Mann and forward Amir Coffey also working out.  But Zubac isn’t totally disconnected, of course. He remains a member of the players-only group chat. And he, like most of the roster, remembers the one-two punch felt this fall when the Clippers’ second-round collapse was followed by watching his former team, the Lakers, claim the NBA championship.  If he cannot yet know how the Clippers will collectively play, he spoke with a clear understanding of how they feel. 
“Some people don’t even put us in the conversation about contending for a championship and that’s, we like that,” Zubac said. “We like all that negative talk and everything that’s around us. We like that challenge. We want to prove that we’re that team, that we can do it. I think that’s going to be the mood all season. Guys are ready, guys been working out since we were out of the bubble and guys are as motivated as ever.” 

The Clippers have not, in fact, been demoted from contender to also-ran. Oddsmakers consistently place them among the top five betting favorites to win the 2021 championship. Though rival executives predict a brutal Western Conference playoff fight, they also expect the Clippers to challenge for the team’s first appearance in either the conference or NBA Finals. A majority of the roster that produced the regular season’s second-best offensive rating and fifth-best defensive rating — statistics that measure points scored and allowed per 100 possessions — is returning.  Yet one of the most stunning lessons learned during the league’s restart near Orlando, Fla., was that for all of the Clippers’ vaunted depth, it did little for them in the postseason, when only a handful of players were reliably productive. By dismissing coach Doc Rivers and hiring Tyronn Lue, the Clippers believed some of their shortcomings were attributable to coaching. 
 “I think he’s going to use the strengths from each guy much more,” Zubac said of Lue, a Clippers assistant last season. “I think it’s a perfect fit for us. A guy who knows us, a guy who works as hard as we do.”  The Clippers have spent the last two weeks also attempting to address roster flaws too. They signed forward Serge Ibaka — a playoff-tested teammate of Kawhi Leonard’s on the 2019 champion Toronto Raptors — in free agency and, on draft night, traded Landry Shamet to Brooklyn and Rodney McGruder to Detroit in exchange for Kennard.  Soon after being traded, Kennard, 24, was receiving texts from new teammate Paul George. The new coaching staff was next to welcome the left-hander who is a career 40% three-point shooter.  “They want me to shoot the ball when I’m open, make plays, and … space the floor and allow guys to do their thing,” Kennard said. 
The Clippers made the trade feeling confident that the bilateral knee tendinitis that shut down Kennard’s last season in December is behind him. The team needs Kennard, who averaged 15.8 points and 4.1 assists in nearly 33 minutes per game last season, not only to remain a floor-spacing shooter but also make plays with the ball in his hands.  After being shut down by the Pistons, Kennard spent the winter and early spring taking part in a workout regimen aimed at strengthening his legs. When the Pistons weren’t one of the 22 teams invited to the league’s Orlando “bubble,” his recovery was given an even longer runway. 

“Having this time to really work on my game is something that has allowed me to take my game to the next level,” he said. “I’m the strongest I’ve ever been physically. I can confidently say that, and I think with that, I’m able to get back to where I was, if not even better.” 
Kennard said he spent his first day of camp as a Clipper working on running off screens and his footwork. Known as a three-point specialist, he called taking and making tough shots at the rim as one area where he expects improvement.  The 11 months of recovery and training has given Kennard a more granular understanding of his game than ever. He’s still waiting to understand how it will blend alongside his new teammates. What is clear, he said, is how good it feels to know that he will find out soon.  “I’m ready to play, I can tell you that,” Kennard said. “It’s been awhile.” 
 Reggie Jackson, the backup guard who played 29 games with the Clippers last season after joining at midseason, is returning to the team on a one-year contract, a person with knowledge of the agreement confirmed. Jackson, 30, averaged 9.5 points during the regular season and 4.9 points in the postseason, shooting 43% overall and 53% on three-pointers."

"Wall Street kicked off December with more milestones Tuesday after a broad rally for stocks pushed the Standard & Poor’s 500 and Nasdaq composite to new highs.  The S&P; 500 gained 1.1%, with technology companies and banks driving a big part of the rally. The strong opening to December followed a 10.8% surge for the broad index in November, its best month since April. The tech-heavy Nasdaq climbed 1.3%. Both indexes beat the record highs they set on Friday. Treasury yields also rose in another sign of optimism from investors.  Stocks have been ramping higher in recent weeks as investors have focused on the possibility that coronavirus vaccines could soon help usher in a fuller global economic recovery. Meanwhile, lawmakers in Washington are debating once more whether to deliver another round of coronavirus relief to the economy before President Trump leaves office.  The S&P; 500 rose 40.82 points to 3,662.45. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 185.28 points, or 0.6%, to 29,823.92. The Nasdaq climbed 156.37 points to 12,355.11. Small company stocks also added to their recent gains. The Russell 2000 index picked up 16.23 points, or 0.9%, to 1,836.05. 
Although the economic recovery has been stunted by a resurgence of the virus, investors are looking past much of that because of progress on vaccine development. Several pharmaceutical companies have reported encouraging data recently suggesting their vaccine candidates are highly effective, raising hopes on Wall Street that the economy will begin to turn around next year as the vaccines are distributed to a world beaten down by the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said in a report that the world economy will bounce back to its pre-pandemic levels by the end of next year, though the recovery will be uneven across the countries and many risks remain.  European regulators could approve a coronavirus vaccine developed by drugmakers Pfizer and BioNTech within four weeks. The companies have asked for approval to begin vaccinations in the U.S. this month. Moderna is also asking U.S. and European regulators to allow emergency use of its COVID-19 vaccine.  Traders are also holding out hope that Democrats and Republicans will reach a deal on some amount of economic stimulus for the economy before 2021, but the parties remain divided on the details and the cost. 
 Unemployment remains high as the COVID-19 outbreak widens the gulf between average people and the wealthiest Americans. The virus, which has claimed more than 270,000 lives nationwide, is resurgent across the country amid holiday travel and colder weather sending people indoors.  President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday repeated calls for Congress to pass immediate pandemic relief funding even before he takes office.  About 76% of the companies in the S&P; 500 rose Tuesday, as did every sector in the index except for industrials. Technology stocks led the way higher, with the Big Tech companies notching gains. Apple rose 3.1% and Microsoft gained 1%. Facebook climbed 3.5%, while Netflix added 2.8%. Google parent Alphabet rose 2.3% and Amazon gained 1.6%.  Banks, healthcare stocks and companies that rely on direct consumer spending also helped drive the market higher. JPMorgan Chase gained 1.6% and Pfizer rose 2.9%. 
Early in Wall Street’s recovery this spring, it was Big Tech that almost single-handedly carried the market higher on expectations that work-from-home and other trends would mean bigger profits for them. But hopes for a vaccine and return to economic normality have been helping boost stocks of companies whose profits are more closely tied to the economy’s strength.  Salesforce.com shares fell 4% in after-hours trading after the business software pioneer announced it is buying work chatting service Slack for $27.7 billion. The acquisition is by far the largest in the 21-year history of San Francisco-based Salesforce.  The yield on the 10-year Treasury rose to 0.93% from 0.83% late Monday, a big move. The higher yields also helped bolster financial stocks, because they allow banks to charge more lucrative interest rates on loans.  European and Asian markets rose. "
